The Barton Reading and Spelling System is an Orton Gillingham-based program. The system uses proven methods to first teach students how to identify letter sounds, followed by how those sounds relate to each letter in the alphabet. Eventually the student will learn to read with fluency and double check their own spelling when writing, resulting in more confidence and independence overall in the classroom and beyond.

Meeting Where You Are

Scheduling tutoring for before school can be a very hectic time, and after school children may be tired or have activities or other therapies. Sunshine Dyslexia Tutoring can meet your child at school, at their home, or other agreed upon locations. We can also meet remotely via video call. Our goal is to help your child progress through the Barton program in a way that makes them most comfortable.

About Me

Carissa Payne, Founder of Sunshine Dyslexia Tutoring Services

I’m a mom of 2 boys and when my oldest was entering 2nd grade, we learned he was dyslexic. Initially, we were not sure where to turn and how to navigate the diagnosis. After some research, we found a local Barton Reading and Spelling tutor who guided him through all 10 levels of the Barton System and we were amazed. He went from a child who didn't want to read at all, to one who started reading chapter books and challenging non-fiction books on his own. This program changed his life. I continue to be so impressed by the impact it had on him that, in early 2023, I decided to make a career change to become a Barton Reading and Spelling tutor myself. I am now a Certified Barton Tutor and look forward to working with you or your student!
